French Bread: Very easy if you have a mixer!
2 T. active dry yeast
2 T. white sugar
1 T. salt
3 cups warm water
2 T. shortening
8 cups flour
Mix first 5 ingredients in mixer, then add flour and knead until elastic. Let dough rise for 10 minutes; then mix for a few seconds. Repeat this 5 times for a total of 50 minutes. Shape dough into 2 rectangles and roll into 2 long rolls. Place on jelly roll pan or cookie sheet sprayed lightly with cooking spray and let rise to double in warm place.
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Bread is done when golden brown. Immediately brush with butter after taking loaves out of oven.
